Founding Engineer at QTech

I joined QTech as a founding engineer through Y Combinator, developing their marketing website and building RAG systems for enterprise clients like Mercedes and Wachendorff. I worked alongside the co-founders to create AI-powered document processing solutions.

QTech: Building Enterprise AI Solutions

I joined QTech as a founding engineer after meeting co-founder Nicholas Torabi through Y Combinator. Together with Louis Schmidlin, the other co-founder, we set out to build enterprise AI solutions that help businesses understand and act on their internal data securely and intelligently.

Marketing Website Development

One of my first contributions was developing QTech's marketing website, which served as the digital face of the company. The website showcased our enterprise AI solutions, emphasizing privacy, security, and GDPR compliance—key differentiators for European businesses.

Key Features:

  • Modern, responsive design highlighting QTech's AI capabilities
  • Interactive demonstrations of knowledge base Q&A
  • Client showcases and testimonials from companies like Atleis, OnAir Jets, and Inlisol
  • Integration examples showing connections to CRM, ERP, and other enterprise tools
  • Pricing and use case sections tailored for different industries

Technologies Utilized:

  • Next.js and React: For building a fast, SEO-optimized website
  • TypeScript: For type-safe development
  • TailwindCSS: For modern, responsive design
  • Vercel: For deployment and hosting

RAG System Development for Enterprise Clients

Following the website launch, I transitioned to working on the core product—building RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) systems for enterprise clients. Our first major clients were Mercedes and Wachendorff, both requiring sophisticated document processing and knowledge retrieval systems.

Mercedes & Wachendorff Projects:

  • PDF Context Feeder: Developed a robust system to process and index large volumes of PDF documents, making them searchable and queryable through AI
  • Document Processing Pipeline: Created automated workflows to extract, process, and structure information from technical documents, contracts, and internal knowledge bases
  • Custom AI Agents: Built tailored AI agents that could answer questions specific to each company's documentation and workflows
  • Enterprise Integration: Ensured seamless integration with existing enterprise systems while maintaining strict data privacy and security standards

Technical Approach:

  • Implemented document chunking and embedding strategies for optimal retrieval
  • Developed context-aware prompting systems to improve answer accuracy
  • Created feedback loops to continuously improve the system's performance
  • Ensured GDPR compliance and data security throughout the pipeline

Team Collaboration and Growth

During my time at QTech, the team evolved as we tackled increasingly complex challenges:

  • Worked closely with Nicholas Torabi (LinkedIn) and Louis Schmidlin (LinkedIn) on product strategy and technical architecture
  • Collaborated with Sebastien, who joined briefly to contribute to the development efforts
  • Participated in strategic decisions about product direction and technology stack

Strategic Pivot to SerenityGPT

As the complexity of building a proprietary RAG system from scratch became apparent, and with most team members balancing full-time jobs, we made a strategic decision to partner with SerenityGPT rather than continuing to build our own infrastructure. This pivot allowed us to:

  • Leverage proven RAG infrastructure while maintaining our custom business logic
  • Focus on client-specific solutions and integrations rather than foundational technology
  • Accelerate delivery timelines for enterprise clients
  • Maintain the high security and privacy standards our clients required

Transition and Lessons Learned

As QTech's workload increased and the demands of building enterprise AI solutions grew, I found it increasingly challenging to balance my contributions with my full-time job responsibilities. After careful consideration, I made the decision to step back from QTech to focus on my primary role.

Key Takeaways:

  • Startup Experience: Gained invaluable experience in the early stages of a startup, from initial product development to enterprise client delivery
  • Enterprise AI Solutions: Deepened my understanding of RAG systems, document processing, and AI-powered knowledge retrieval
  • Strategic Decision Making: Participated in critical business decisions, including technology partnerships and product pivots
  • Work-Life Balance: Learned important lessons about managing multiple commitments and knowing when to make difficult choices

Impact and Achievements

  • Foundation Building: Helped establish QTech's digital presence and early product offerings, laying the groundwork for future growth
  • Enterprise Delivery: Successfully delivered RAG systems for major clients like Mercedes and Wachendorff, demonstrating the viability of the product
  • Technical Innovation: Contributed to building sophisticated AI systems that process and understand complex enterprise documentation
  • Strategic Partnerships: Participated in the decision to partner with SerenityGPT, enabling faster scaling while maintaining quality standards

My time at QTech was a formative experience in the intersection of AI, enterprise software, and startup growth, providing insights into building products that meet the stringent requirements of European enterprise clients.
